Shinogi Kazanami

Description
Shinogi Kazanami is the original creator of the multimedia franchise The New Gate. The person is credited as the author of the original story for the Japanese light novel series, its manga adaptation, and the subsequent anime television series.

The New Gate originated as a web novel series written by Shinogi Kazanami. The story began publication in 2013 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Due to its growing popularity, the series was later acquired for print publication by the Japanese publishing house AlphaPolis. The first volume of the light novel was released in print on December 27, 2013, with illustrations by Makai no Jūnin. As the series progressed, different illustrators contributed to the light novel volumes; KeG illustrated volumes 10 and 11, and Akira Banpai took over as illustrator starting with volume 12. In August 2016, the original web novel was removed from Shōsetsuka ni Narō and transferred exclusively to AlphaPolis own website.

The manga adaptation of The New Gate is illustrated by Yoshiyuki Miwa, but Shinogi Kazanami is consistently credited as the original story author for the manga. The manga began serialization on AlphaPolis website on November 11, 2014. The English language version of the manga is published in North America by One Peace Books, which also credits Shinogi Kazanami as the original story creator on all volumes.

An anime television series adaptation of The New Gate aired from April 14, 2024 to June 30, 2024. The animation was produced by the studios Cloud Hearts and Yokohama Animation Laboratory. Shinogi Kazanami is the credited original creator of the work on which the anime is based, and the production committee for the anime acknowledges the person as the original author of the light novel series.

Beyond the light novel, manga, and anime, a free to play mobile game based on The New Gate was developed and published by AlphaPolis. It launched on iOS and Android on October 4, 2016, but its service ended on January 27, 2021.

The New Gate falls within the isekai genre, a popular category in Japanese fantasy fiction where a character is transported to or trapped in a different, often game like, world. The story follows the protagonist Shin, a powerful player trapped in a death game who, after defeating the final boss, finds himself transported five hundred years into the future of the game world. By February 2023, the combined circulation of the novels and manga had reached 2.34 million copies.
