Yoshiyuki Miwa
Description
Yoshiyuki Miwa is a Japanese manga artist known for his work as an illustrator and adapter of manga series. He was born in Nagasaki Prefecture and developed an interest in drawing from an early age, often sketching scenes from anime he watched while growing up on an island with few bookstores. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Fukuoka Design Communication College, where he learned the fundamentals of manga creation and purchased his first manga volumes as a student.
Miwa began his professional career as a dedicated assistant to a working manga artist who was also an instructor at his college. He made his commercial debut in 2011 with the series With God, based on an original story by Ju Homin, which was serialized in Young Gangan.
His most prominent work is as the artist for the manga adaptation of The New Gate. The original story is a Japanese light novel series written by Shinogi Kazanami, which began publication online in 2013 before being published in print by AlphaPolis. Miwa’s manga adaptation started serialization on the AlphaPolis website on November 11, 2014. The English-language edition of the manga is published by One Peace Books, with the first volume released in 2020. The series follows a powerful player named Shin who is transported into the world of an online game, and Miwa is credited consistently across library catalogs and publication records as the manga artist, with Shinogi Kazanami as the original story creator. A twelve-episode anime television series adaptation of The New Gate aired in 2024.
Beyond The New Gate, Miwa’s other notable serialized works include Ultimate Engage, created in collaboration with writer Shunji Eto, which was serialized on Shonen Jump+ from March 2017 to April 2018. He has also contributed one-shot manga, including Calm Before the Storm and Fullmoon Trap, and has provided artwork for projects such as the four-panel manga for the mobile game Akaseka: Sekai de Kimi to Utau and jacket illustrations for music releases.
Throughout his career, Miwa has specialized in adapting existing stories into the manga format, demonstrating a particular focus on fantasy and isekai genres as seen in works like With God and The New Gate. His artistic identity is closely tied to bringing character-driven fantasy narratives to visual life, with his contributions being essential to the publication and international reach of these series.
