Saya Miyauchi
Description
Saya Miyauchi is a Japanese manga artist and writer, known as the original creator of the manga and anime series Dog Signal. Her professional debut as a mangaka occurred in November 1988 when she published a short story titled Fujizen na jizen in the special issue DX Juliette of Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine. After graduating from high school, she pursued post-secondary education at a vocational school specializing in dog grooming. This unique background in animal care would later inform one of her most prominent works.
Miyauchi is the author of numerous shōjo manga, exploring a wide range of themes across her career. Her most commercially successful work, prior to Dog Signal, was a series centered on the Japanese talent agency Johnny's Jimusho and its associated J-pop groups, which sold one million copies over the course of ten volumes. She has also addressed varied subject matter in her manga, including historical themes and animal-assisted therapy.
Miyauchi is best known for creating Dog Signal, a manga series she writes and illustrates. The series is published by Kadokawa and began serialization on the josei manga website Comic Bridge on July 24, 2018. As of October 2025, the series has been collected into fourteen tankōbon volumes. The manga is categorized as a slice-of-life story. An anime television series adaptation of Dog Signal, produced by the studio Fugaku, aired for twenty episodes on NHK Educational TV from October 2023 to March 2024. For the anime adaptation, Miyauchi is credited as the original creator and the designer of the original characters. The anime's production team included a director, scriptwriter, and composer separate from Miyauchi.
