Shichio Kuzu
Description
Shichio Kuzu is an original creator known for his work in Japanese light novels and manga, primarily recognized as the author of the series Mushoku no Eiyū: Betsu ni Sukiru Nanka Iranakattan da ga, also known in English as Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?!. Kuzu first began writing this series as a web novel, serializing it on the user-generated publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō from November 2017 until May 2020. The story gained enough popularity to be acquired for traditional print publication, with Earth Star Entertainment releasing the first light novel volume in July 2018 under its Earth Star Novel imprint. The light novel series features illustrations by Yumehito Ueda and comprises four volumes.
The success of the light novel led to a manga adaptation, which began serialization in November 2018 on the Comic Earth Star website, also published by Earth Star Entertainment. The manga is illustrated by Akio Nanae, with Shichio Kuzu credited as the original creator. The manga series has been compiled into multiple tankōbon volumes, with its release extending beyond the original light novel run. An English-language version of the manga has been licensed and released in North America by One Peace Books.
In October 2023, it was announced that Mushoku no Eiyū would receive a television anime adaptation, which subsequently aired from October to December 2025. The anime was produced by studio A-CAT, further expanding the reach of Kuzu’s original work into other media.
The central work by Shichio Kuzu, Mushoku no Eiyū, is a fantasy series that follows a protagonist in a world where individuals receive a divine profession or class. The narrative focuses on the main character, Arel, who is born to highly skilled parents but receives the class of "unemployed" and must rely on his own training and natural abilities to achieve greatness. The series has been consistently published across multiple formats, demonstrating a typical trajectory for a successful Japanese web novel that transitions to mainstream publishing and media adaptation.
