Shiro Manta

Description
Shiro Manta is a Japanese web comic creator and manga artist, born on October 20 in Japan. The creator is best known as the author and illustrator of the romantic comedy series My Senpai Is Annoying. The pen name Shiro Manta originated from a shared account name the creator's father used for gaming, inspired by a memory of a manta ray glowing white in the light while diving. The creator's self-portrait is a stylized, white depiction of a manta ray seen from below, sometimes worn as a mascot head in public appearances.

Shiro Manta began posting artwork on social media platforms in 2014 and started publishing original four-page manga stories in 2017. The series Senpai ga Uzai Kōhai no Hanashi, known in English as My Senpai Is Annoying, was first posted on Twitter and pixiv on September 18, 2017. The story follows a diminutive office worker named Futaba Igarashi and her loud, large, and persistently friendly senior colleague Harumi Takeda. The series became the creator's first commercial release when the publisher Ichijinsha collected it into a physical tankobon volume in March 2018. The manga was serialized online through Ichijinsha's Comic POOL digital magazine from 2017 until July 2024 and spans twelve collected volumes. The series received the first place award in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Awards in 2018.

An anime television adaptation of My Senpai Is Annoying was produced by the studio Doga Kobo and aired from October to December 2021. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. Beyond this flagship work, Shiro Manta has contributed short manga pieces and anthology works including contributions to publications such as Gessan magazine and anthology collections from Ichijinsha. The creator has also provided illustration work for other series, including special edition booklets for Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro and Wataten An Angel Flew Down to Me, as well as ending cards for anime productions.

Shiro Manta's artistic identity is closely associated with the dynamic contrast between a small, sharp-tempered female character and a large, friendly male figure, a theme present in the work that launched the creator's career. The creator cites interests in video games, particularly action and first-person shooter genres, and occasionally streams gameplay online. Shiro Manta has mentioned having a tall stature, with past social media posts indicating a height of 185 centimeters. The creator's work holds significance as a successful example of a web comic that originated on social media platforms and transitioned into a commercially published series, subsequently receiving an anime adaptation and international distribution.
