Originating as an unofficial mascot for the city of Funabashi in Chiba Prefecture, Funassyi was created by an anonymous local resident in November 2011 to promote the area. The character is depicted as a pear fairy, known for its high-energy antics, distinctive falsetto voice, and habit of ending sentences with the phrase "nasshi".

Funassyi's career as a voice actor began in July 2013 with a guest appearance in the short-form anime series Nyuru Nyuru!! KAKUSEN-kun, where the character voiced itself. This role marked the character's debut in animation, voicing a cartoon version of its own persona.

One of Funassyi's notable voice roles came in the 2014 animated film Eiga HappinessCharge PreCure! Ningyō no Kuni no Ballerina. This appearance was significant as it marked the first time a real-life mascot character had made a cameo in a Pretty Cure movie.
