Jiyoung

Description
Jiyoung, also known as Kang Ji Young, is a South Korean entertainer who has built a career as a singer, actress, and voice actor, primarily active in Japan. She first gained widespread recognition as a member of the popular Korean idol group KARA, which she joined in 2008. Following her departure from the group in 2014, she shifted her focus to Japan, signing with a new agency to pursue acting and language studies, which led to a significant body of work in both live-action Japanese dramas and voice acting for anime.

Her entry into voice acting was marked by a role she described as a dream come true, providing a voice for the 2015 animated film Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno. A fan of the long-running Detective Conan series, she found the experience of acting in front of a microphone, without the aid of a camera, to be a notable and somewhat uncomfortable change from her live-action work. This debut built upon earlier, less formal dubbing experience with the anime KARA The Animation during her idol days.

Jiyoung is perhaps best known in the anime world for her role as Harley Quinn in the 2017 comedy film DC Super Heroes vs. Eagle Talon. In this crossover production featuring the Justice League and a bumbling Japanese secret society, she voiced the iconic DC villain, starring alongside Takayuki Yamada as Batman and Ken Yasuda as the Joker. Her casting as the voice of Harley Quinn was a prominent example of her transition from music to acting in the Japanese entertainment industry.

Throughout her career, Jiyoung has demonstrated a pattern of reprising roles across different media, showcasing her versatility as a performer. Notably, she portrayed the character Irina Jelavić in both the 2015 live-action film Assassination Classroom and its 2016 sequel, Assassination Classroom: Graduation. This connection to popular manga and anime adaptations extended to her live-action role as Itori in the 2019 film Tokyo Ghoul S. Her filmography also includes a voice role in the 2015 anime film Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno, further establishing her presence within the anime industry.
