Friedrich W. Bauschulte was a German actor and voiceover speaker, born Friedrich Wilhelm Bauschulte on 17 March 1923 in Münster, Germany. He received his acting training at the drama academy of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1942. Following his studies, he held stage engagements in Münster, Bremen, and Wuppertal before securing a permanent position with the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin in 1963. In recognition of his stage work, he was appointed a Berlin State Actor in 1970.
While he appeared in various film and television roles, Bauschulte was most prolific as a voice actor, lending his distinctive voice to numerous German-language dubs of international films and series. One of his best-known dubbing roles was providing the German voice for Karl Malden as Lieutenant Mike Stone in the television series The Streets of San Francisco, a role he continued for Malden in all his subsequent films. He also voiced Richard Attenborough in the first two Jurassic Park films, George Gaynes as Commandant Lassard in the Police Academy series, and Richard Crenna as Colonel Trautman in Rambo: First Blood. His voice was also familiar to German audiences from animated works; he was the German voice of Mr. Rossi in the popular Herr Rossi sucht das Glück series from the 1970s and was one of the German voices for the Disney character Ludwig von Drake.
Regarding anime and animated features, Bauschulte contributed to the German dubbed version of the 1989 animated film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. In this Japanese-American production, he provided the German voice for the character Professor Genie, who was voiced by Rene Auberjonois in the original English version.
Beyond his on-screen dubbing work, Bauschulte had an extensive career in radio drama. From 1978 to 1999, he was the voice of the title character in the long-running detective series Professor van Dusen for RIAS (later DeutschlandRadio Berlin). He also appeared in numerous other radio productions, including episodes of the popular children's series Benjamin Blümchen and Bibi Blocksberg. Friedrich W. Bauschulte passed away on 28 May 2003 in Berlin at the age of 80.
