Dan Ichikawa
Description
Dan Ichikawa is a Japanese manga artist and writer, primarily known as the creator of the workplace comedy series My New Boss Is Goofy. The series, which Ichikawa both writes and illustrates, began as a webcomic posted on Twitter in 2018 before gaining enough popularity to launch as an official serialization. It began running on Akita Shoten's digital Manga Cross platform on February 5, 2019. The manga is published under Akita Shoten's Young Champion Comics imprint, with two compiled tankōbon volumes released to date: the first on August 20, 2019, and the second on May 20, 2020.
The work is Ichikawa's most prominent credit and has been adapted into an anime television series. The adaptation, produced by A-1 Pictures, aired 12 episodes from October 7 to December 23, 2023. An English language version of the manga has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, with the first volume scheduled for release in April 2025. The series has been categorized with a shōjo demographic target.
My New Boss Is Goofy centers on the professional relationship between a young office worker named Kentarō Momose, who is recovering from workplace harassment at a previous job, and his new superior, Yūsei Shirosaki, whose kind but absent-minded nature becomes an unexpected source of comfort and humor. Thematically, the work explores workplace dynamics, recovery from professional burnout and bullying, and the development of supportive interpersonal relationships within a corporate setting. The series has been noted for its inversion of the typical hierarchical power dynamic between boss and subordinate.
