Adachitoka
Description
Adachitoka is the collective pen name used by a duo of Japanese female manga artists. The name combines the nicknames of its two members: Adachi, born December 14 in Murayama, Yamagata, and Tokashiki, born November 28 in Naha, Okinawa. The pair have a clear division of labor in their creative process, with Adachi responsible for drawing the characters and foreground, while Tokashiki handles the backgrounds.
The duo began their professional careers as assistants to manga artist Motohiro Kato. They made their debut in 2003 by providing the illustrations for the series Alive: The Final Evolution, which featured a story by Tadashi Kawashima. This series was serialized in Monthly Shōnen Magazine until its completion in 2010.
Following the end of Alive: The Final Evolution, Adachitoka began work on their first original story, a project that drew from a one-shot they had previously written. This became Noragami, which was serialized in Monthly Shōnen Magazine from December 2010 to January 2024, concluding after more than fourteen years of publication. The series became a significant commercial success, with over eight million copies in print worldwide by the time its final volume was released.
The popularity of Noragami led to two anime television adaptations produced by the studio Bones. The first twelve-episode season, titled Noragami, aired from January to March 2014. A second thirteen-episode season, Noragami Aragoto, followed from October to December 2015. The series was also nominated for the Kodansha Manga Award in both 2014 and 2016.
The duo took a hiatus from publishing Noragami in May 2017 due to one of the members experiencing health complications. The manga resumed serialization in June 2018. In 2020, Adachitoka contributed to a collaborative manga project involving multiple Japanese companies aimed at combating manga piracy.
