Yuuki Obata

Description
Yūki Obata is a Japanese manga artist born on January 9, 1962, in Hokkaido, Japan, where she continues to reside. Her professional career began in 1998 when she made her debut with the one-shot story Rain Drops, which earned an honorable mention in the newcomer category at the Shogakukan Manga Awards. Since her debut, her works have been primarily published in Shogakukan's Betsucomi, a magazine targeting young female readers.

Obata is best known as the creator of the popular shoujo manga series Bokura ga Ita, also known as We Were There. The series was serialized in Betsucomi from 2002 to 2012 and compiled into sixteen volumes. Bokura ga Ita became a significant commercial and critical success, with over ten million copies in circulation. In 2004, the series won the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shoujo category, sharing the honor with Hinako Ashihara's Sand Chronicles. The story's popularity led to an anime television adaptation produced by Artland, which aired in 2006. A two-part live-action film adaptation was subsequently released in March and April 2012. Exhibitions featuring Obata's original artwork from Bokura ga Ita have been held in various locations, including JR Kushiro Station in Hokkaido in 2010, as well as in Sapporo and Tokyo in 2012.

Prior to her major success, Obata created several other manga series. These include Kimi no Kachi (2000), Suki Kirai Suki (2000), Maru Sankaku Shikaku (2000-2001), and Sumire wa Blue (2001-2002), all of which are romantic dramas or comedies aimed at a shoujo audience. Following the conclusion of Bokura ga Ita, she began work on Haru Meguru, which was serialized in Shueisha's Cookie magazine starting in 2012. The series produced two volumes before going on hiatus in 2014. Since that time, her published output has become limited, with only occasional short stories appearing in anthologies.
