Masako Matsubara

Masako Matsubara is a Japanese voice actress and narrator from Tokyo, born on October 8th. She began her career in the 1970s and is affiliated with the talent agency Beat One.
Matsubara is best known for her long-running role as the second voice actor for Shizuka Minamoto's mother in the TV anime series Doraemon. She took over the role in August 1981 and continued to voice the character for nearly a quarter of a century, until the voice cast was renewed in March 2005. Her portrayal of Shizuka's mother extended beyond the television series to numerous Doraemon theatrical features. Some of the films featuring her in this role include Doraemon: Nobita's Dorabian Nights, Doraemon: Nobita and the Animal Planet, Doraemon: Nobita's Three Visionary Swordsmen, Doraemon: Nobita's Diary on the Creation of the World, Doraemon: Nobita's Wedding Night, and The Day I Was Born.
Beyond her iconic work in the Doraemon franchise, Matsubara's career includes a variety of other voice roles in anime television series and films from the 1970s through the 2000s. Her earlier work includes roles in Sunrise productions such as Maya and Novak Arsha in the space opera series Legendary Giant Ideon and its compilation films, and Kaoru Katsuki in Invincible Superman Zanbot 3. She also voiced Stella Maynard in the anime adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Her guest roles in later years include appearances in City Hunter, Black Jack, and Case Closed.
In addition to her voice work for animation, Matsubara has also worked extensively as a narrator.
