Carlos Hugo Hidalgo
Description
Carlos Hugo Hidalgo is a Mexican actor and director of dubbing, best known for his work in Latin Spanish voice-overs for anime, television series, and films. Born Carlos Hugo Hidalgo Trejo on August 28, 1968, in Mexico City, he began his career in the early 1990s. His interest in voice acting was sparked by a depiction of the dubbing process in a film by Pedro Almodóvar, which led him to join the renowned Audiomaster 3000 studio around 1990.
Hidalgo has built an extensive career spanning over three decades, with a particular focus on anime. He is perhaps most recognized for providing the voice of the male Ranma Saotome in the iconic series Ranma ½. He was proposed for the role by the director, Rocío Prado, and selected by production manager Felipe Rivera, a role he considers a significant part of his legacy. In addition to Ranma ½, his notable anime roles include Nicholas D. Wolfwood in Trigun, Shura of Capricorn in various Saint Seiya projects including Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, and Miki Kaoru in Revolutionary Girl Utena. He also voiced Gō Miyase in the series Stand My Heroes: Piece of Truth and took on the title role in Peter Pan & Wendy, demonstrating the range of characters he has portrayed.
Beyond acting, Hidalgo is actively involved in the creative and educational aspects of dubbing. He works as a translator and director, contributing to projects such as the animated series Regular Show (Un show más) and Adventure Time (Hora de aventura). He is the founder and general director of Percepción Studio, a school for performing and interpretive arts where he teaches dubbing, acting, and voice-over techniques, and also runs the internet radio station Radio Percepción. In a 2009 interview, he cited the work of mangaka Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma ½ and Inuyasha, as consistently well-defined, and named the films Braveheart and the anime Fate/stay night and The Twelve Kingdoms as personal favorites.
