Yūki Shikawa

Description
Yūki Shikawa is a Japanese manga artist and original creator, also known by the pen name Hajime. Born on November 28, 1977, in Hamamatsu City, Japan, Shikawa is best recognized as the creator behind the manga and anime series Miss Bernard said., known in Japanese as Bernard-jou Iwaku.

Shikawa began publishing manga in the mid-2000s. Early works include the series Sanagi-san, which ran from 2004 to 2008, and Mozuku, Walking!, serialized from 2004 to 2008. Other notable manga authored by Shikawa include Utsu Gohan, which started in 2010, the eight-volume series Shounen Y from 2012 to 2015, and Utsukushii Inu from 2016 to 2017. Shikawa has also contributed to anthology works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica: 4-koma Anthology Comic.

The manga Miss Bernard said. began serialization in 2011 and is still ongoing. The series is a comedy centered on Sawako Machida, a self-proclaimed book lover who frequently visits the school library and pretends to have read famous literary works, much to the chagrin of her more earnest friends. This manga served as the source material for a twelve-episode anime television adaptation that aired from October to December 2016, with each episode running approximately three minutes. A special DVD episode was also released in 2016. Shikawa is credited as the original creator for this anime adaptation.

Additional manga series written and illustrated by Shikawa include Yoru to Neru, Okaerinasai Sanagi-san, and Onnoji. The creator has maintained a personal website. While Shikawa's work is primarily situated in the comedy and slice-of-life genres, the body of work is defined by character-driven humor and scenarios centered on niche hobbies and interpersonal quirks. The industry significance lies in the successful adaptation of a long-running manga gag series into a short-form anime, a format well-suited to the source material's comedic pacing.
