Daichi Sorayomi
Description
Daichi Sorayomi is a Japanese manga artist and the original creator behind the anime and manga series Keijo!!!!!!!!. Hailing from Hyogo Prefecture, Sorayomi began his path in the industry in 2006 when he received an honorable mention in the 59th Shogakukan Newcomer Manga Award for his work, Daron. He made his professional serialization debut in 2011 with The Exorcist Hand, a series published in Shogakukan's Club Sunday magazine that was collected into three volumes. Sorayomi is best known for creating Keijo!!!!!!!!, a sports manga that was serialized in the prominent shonen magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday from July 2013 to April 2017. The series, which spans 18 tankobon volumes, presents a fictional women-only contact sport where competitors use only their breasts and buttocks to battle on floating platforms. The manga was adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series produced by Studio Xebec, which aired from October to December 2016, followed by six original animation DVD specials. Following the conclusion of Keijo!!!!!!!!, Sorayomi launched the manga Yuukatsu in 2023, a three-volume series published by Kadokawa. He began a new serialization, Milk Squeezer Hunter Isekai Chronicle, in August 2024, which is ongoing. A defining characteristic of Sorayomi's artistic identity is his ability to treat absurd premises with complete earnestness. In Keijo!!!!!!!!, he applies the structured logic and dramatic tension of a serious sports manga to a highly unconventional and fan service-oriented concept, creating inventive techniques and a fictional sporting world that is both self-aware and genuinely engaging. This approach allows his work to be recognized not merely for its provocative content but for its creativity within the parody and ecchi genres. Sorayomi's significance in the industry is rooted in his ability to generate mainstream success with a high-concept series like Keijo!!!!!!!!, which achieved the milestone of an anime adaptation while working within a major publisher like Shogakukan, thereby demonstrating the commercial viability of niche, comedy-driven sports narratives in the shonen demographic.
