Syundei

Description
Syundei is a Japanese manga artist known for creating works within the boys love genre, which focuses on romantic relationships between male characters. The artist began their career by drawing doujinshi, or self-published works, and posting comics online before transitioning to professional serialization in commercial manga magazines.

Syundei is best known for the romantic comedy series Go for It, Nakamura! The story follows a shy and awkward high school boy named Nakamura who falls in love with his classmate Hirose at first sight. The original manga was first published as a short in the magazine Opera in December 2014, with regular chapters running from June 2015 to 2016. The series was collected into a single compiled volume in May 2017 by the publisher Akaneshinsha. A sequel, titled Go for It Again, Nakamura!, began serialization in the same magazine in June 2017 and was published in a single volume in August 2021.

Beyond the Nakamura series, Syundei has created other notable works that explore different tones and genres. Gesshoku Kitan, also known as Total Eclipse of the Eternal Heart, is a supernatural mystery manga that was serialized in Opera between February and December 2015. Zatsuon, or The Noise, is a collection of one-shot stories that was published in a single volume by Takeshobo in June 2017. Syundei has also published other one-shots and contributed to collaborative BL anthologies.

An anime adaptation of Go for It, Nakamura! was announced and is scheduled to premiere in 2026 after being delayed from its originally planned 2025 debut due to production reasons. The anime is being produced by the animation studio Drive, with Aoi Umeki serving as director, scriptwriter, and character designer. The main cast includes Chiaki Kobayashi as Okuto Nakamura and Yuki Sakakihara as Aiki Hirose. Crunchyroll is set to stream the series internationally with a same-day English dub.

The creator is recognized for a distinctive artistic style that draws inspiration from 1980s manga, characterized by classic school uniforms and hairstyles reminiscent of works by influential creators such as Rumiko Takahashi. This retro aesthetic, combined with a range that spans comedy, drama, horror, and fantasy, forms a key element of Syundei's artistic identity. The artist has appeared in the margins of their own manga, depicted with distinctive pinhole glasses and short hair, and has occasionally streamed on social media platforms.

Go for It, Nakamura! has been licensed for English publication in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment, with translations also available in Spanish, Italian, and other languages, demonstrating the series' international reach and significance within the boys love genre.
