Strike Tanaka
Description
Strike Tanaka is a Japanese manga artist, primarily recognized as the creator of the popular vampire fantasy series Servamp. The artist made their debut with the serialization of Servamp, which began in the June 2011 issue of Kadokawas Monthly Comic Gene magazine, with the first compiled volume released in December of that same year. The series quickly became their signature work and was later adapted into an anime television series that aired in 2016, followed by the theatrical film Gekijōban Servamp: Alice in the Garden.
Beyond the Servamp franchise, Tanaka has contributed to the Kagerou Daze official comic anthology series, providing manga and illustrations for several volumes, including those subtitled UPPER, SUMMER, WINTER, SPRING, and BITTER. Their artistic contributions also extend to other anthology projects, such as the K Maniacs official comic anthology for the K series. While best known for Servamp, sources indicate the creator has also worked on a variety of boys love titles.
The creators artistic identity is closely tied to Servamp, a battle fantasy series that explores themes of contracts and conflicts among vampires representing the seven deadly sins, with a unique servant-master dynamic between the main characters. Tanakas artistic process has evolved over the years; initially using a combination of analog methods for sketching and inking with a writing brush, they transitioned to primarily digital tools like CLIP STUDIO PAINT around the thirteenth volume of Servamp. A notable aspect of their engagement with fans is the creation of TANAKABOX, a self-produced free web game site featuring Servamp characters, which launched in April 2018 and hosts various seasonal and character-birthday events.
The artists career has seen significant milestones, including a temporary hiatus from Servamp from January to March 2017 due to health issues related to back and neck pain, after which the series resumed. The series itself has achieved significant commercial and critical success, leading to multiple adaptations. In addition to the television anime and animated film, Servamp was also adapted into a stage play. The creators work has been collected in two art books, STRIKE ZONE SERVAMP ILLUSTRATION WORKS published in 2016 and its sequel STRIKE ZONE 2 in 2021. Tanaka has also participated in special illustration projects, such as providing art for the 45th anniversary commemoration book of Comiket and contributing to a relay illustration event celebrating the release of the visual novel Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-.
