Mami Kashiwabara
Description
Mami Kashiwabara is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator. She was born on June 17, 1980, in Fukushima Prefecture and resides in Saitama City. Kashiwabara made her professional debut in her teens after receiving recognition in Kodansha's Afternoon Shiki Awards. In 1996, she won an honorable mention for her work Tsukimisou in the Spring contest and later received a Judges' Special Award for Hello, dear in the same year. She subsequently won the Shiki Award in 2001 for the work remain. She is also known to use the pen name Kashimami for some of her illustration work.
Kashiwabara is best known as the creator of the manga series Sora no Manimani (also known as Romantic追星社). The series was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon from November 2005 to September 2011. The story follows a boy who reunites with an energetic childhood friend and gets drawn into her school's astronomy club, blending romantic comedy with slice-of-life elements centered on a passion for stargazing. The completed series was compiled into ten tankobon volumes, released in Japan between June 2006 and September 2011.
The success of Sora no Manimani led to a media mix adaptation. A twelve-episode anime television series produced by Studio Comet and directed by Shinji Takamatsu aired in Japan from July to September 2009. Kashiwabara is credited as the original creator of the work. She has also contributed as an illustrator for other projects, including the BanG Dream! franchise, where she was credited for artwork in the manga adaptation.
