Yumi Unita is a Japanese manga artist born on May 10, 1972, in Mie Prefecture, Japan. After high school, she studied fashion design at Nagoya University and worked in advertising for four years before launching her career as a creator. She currently resides in Mie Prefecture with her family.

Unita made her professional debut in 1998 with the short story Voice, published in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine. Over the course of her career, she has worked across multiple genres and demographics, with her works appearing in seinen, josei, and shonen publications. She has created numerous short stories compiled into collections, including the Unita Yumi Works series featuring volumes such as Rakuraku, Kiki, Manimani, and others.

Unita is best known as the original creator of Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop), her longest-running and most commercially successful series. The manga was serialized in Shodensha's josei magazine Feel Young from October 2005 to April 2011 and collected into ten volumes. The story follows thirty-year-old Daikichi as he becomes the guardian of Rin, the six-year-old illegitimate daughter of his grandfather. Bunny Drop received significant adaptation attention, including an eleven-episode anime television series produced by Production I.G that aired on Fuji TV's noitamina block from July to September 2011. A live-action film adaptation premiered in Japan in August 2011. A spin-off series, Usagi Drop: Bangaihen, was serialized in Feel Young from July to December 2011. The manga has been licensed for English release by Yen Press.

Another notable work by Unita is Sukimasuki, a romantic comedy manga that follows a university student who spies on his neighbor through gaps between curtains and the woman who knowingly allows herself to be observed. This manga inspired a live-action film adaptation released in 2015.

Unita has demonstrated consistent productivity across her career with a wide range of series. Her other works include Toribako House, a two-volume story about a woman trapped by the tedium of her relationship who becomes attracted to a younger man; Yonin Gurashi, a four-volume series exploring family life through the daily experiences of the Honda family; Slumbering Beauty (Nemurime Hime), which has been released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment; Crescendo de Susume, a high school choir story that was adapted into short live-action episodes airing within NTV's ZIP morning news program beginning October 2022; and Para Para Days, which was serialized in Shogakukan's Monthly Spirits magazine from October 2014 until February 2021. She has also created works drawing from her own maternal experiences, such as the two-volume kodomo manga Sodateko, which addresses child-rearing topics.
