Nanae Chrono

Description
Nanae Chrono, also known in Japan as Nanae Kurono, is a Japanese manga artist born on June 18, 1980 in Tochigi Prefecture. He is the creative force behind several manga series that have been adapted into anime, including the original works credited for the anime films Peacemaker Kurogane: Belief and Peacemaker Kurogane: Friend, as well as the anime adaptation of Vassalord.

Chrono began his professional career in 1999 when a one-shot manga titled Wagamama Tenshi no Sodatekata was published in Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine. That same year, he launched his first major series, Shinsengumi Imon Peace Maker, which also ran in Monthly Shōnen Gangan. This historical manga, set during the late Edo period, follows a young boy named Tetsunosuke Ichimura who joins the Shinsengumi special police force seeking vengeance for his parents murder. The series proved successful and was later rebranded and continued under the title Peacemaker Kurogane, which has been published across multiple magazines including Monthly Comic Blade and Monthly Comic Garden.

The Peacemaker Kurogane franchise has seen multiple anime adaptations. A 24 episode television anime series produced by studio Gonzo aired from October 2003 to March 2004. More recently, two anime films were released in 2018: Peacemaker Kurogane: Belief in June and Peacemaker Kurogane: Friend in November, both produced by studio White Fox. The creator is also credited for the anime Vassalord, a manga series that began serialization in 2006 and ran for seven volumes, featuring a story about a cyborg vampire who works for the Vatican.

Among Chronos other notable works is Senki Senki Momotama, a ten volume series that started in 2005 and concluded in 2015, initially running in Comic Blade magazine before moving to the web magazine Web Comic Beats. He also contributed the original concept for Paka Run, a three volume series drawn by Nakabayashin Takamasa. In addition to his manga work, Chrono has published two artbooks, Kuro no Ga in 2004 featuring art from Peacemaker Kurogane, and Chrono Graffiti in 2008 collecting illustrations from Senki Senki Momotama, Vassalord, and other series. He has also provided character designs for other projects, including the television anime series Police in a Pod.

Chronos artistic style is characterized by detailed illustrations that blend both analog and digital techniques, using watercolors, acrylic paints, and Copic markers. His storytelling frequently incorporates complex foreshadowing and features dynamic action sequences. His works often explore historical settings with supernatural or gothic elements, and he has publicly identified as a transgender man. Peacemaker Kurogane remains his most enduring work, with serialization continuing intermittently for over two decades, marking him as a distinctive voice in Japanese historical manga.
