Takuma Morishige

Description
Takuma Morishige is a Japanese manga artist born in 1978 in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from the engineering department of Hiroshima University. Morishige made his professional debut in 2001 with the work Talk Live Lesson. Early in his career, he used the pen names Kimura Takuma and Mori Takuma before settling on his current name. Before achieving widespread recognition, he created several short serializations for Bessatsu Young Magazine that were not collected into standalone volumes, followed by the series Aihoshimodoki, which ran in Weekly Shonen Champion.

Morishige is best known as the original creator of the manga Tonari no Seki-kun, also known as My Neighbor Seki or The Master of Killing Time. This series began serialization in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine in 2010. The story focuses on a schoolgirl named Rumi Yokoi who sits next to a boy, Toshinari Seki, who constantly engages in elaborate, imaginative games and projects at his desk, much to her distracting fascination. The manga proved popular and was adapted into a twenty-three episode anime television series that aired in 2014, directed by Yuji Muto. The anime adaptation, which carries the subtitle The Master of Killing Time, helped introduce the series to a wider international audience. Morishige also personally wrote lyrics for character songs related to the anime adaptation.

Beyond his signature work, Morishige has authored several other manga series. These include Ane Gurumi, published by Houbunsha in 2013, Gakuen Rengoku Zombie Mate, published by Kodansha and Hakusensha in 2013, and Iinari Gohan, published by Shueisha in 2012. He also created Voice Radio: Boku no Suki na Personality, serialized starting in 2018. Morishige has contributed as an author to anthology comics for other popular franchises, including Girls und Panzer and Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story. His published works also include a spinoff series titled Tonari no Seki-kun Junior, which began in 2020. He is the younger brother of the well-known manga artist Akiko Higashimura.
