Description
Hiroyuki Aigamo is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator known for his work on manga adaptations of light novel series. After graduating from a prefectural high school in Osaka, Aigamo entered the Department of Japanese Painting at Kyoto City University of Arts but left before completing the program. Subsequently, he joined the game company Group SNE, where he worked in secretarial and event staff roles for approximately four and a half years before leaving to become a freelance illustrator.
Aigamo's professional background includes contributions to anime productions. In 2012, he provided character design assistance for the television anime adaptation of Accel World and illustrated a back sponsor screen for an episode of Sword Art Online.
His most prominent and sustained work has been as the artist for manga adaptations of popular light novel franchises. He is best known for illustrating the manga version of Accel World, based on the novels by Reki Kawahara. The series began serialization in 2010. Aigamo is also the artist for the manga adaptation of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's, which is based on the light novel series written by Matsuri Akai. This manga began serialization on Overlap's Comic Gardo website in July 2018, and its compiled chapters have been published in multiple volumes. An anime television series adaptation of this work, animated by Sunrise and produced by TMS Entertainment, is scheduled to premiere in October 2025.
Beyond these titles, Aigamo has also been credited with illustration work on manga adaptations for other series, including Avabel Online and Sci & Sorcery. His artistic identity is closely tied to the fantasy and science fiction genres, primarily adapting existing narratives into manga format rather than originating his own stories. His contributions are significant within the industry for translating the visual aesthetics and pacing of popular light novel properties into the manga medium, thereby extending the reach of those franchises.
