Tomo Hanama

Description
Tomo Hanama is a Japanese author best known for creating the light novel series that served as the source material for the manga and anime works with which they are associated. Born in 1990 in Aomori Prefecture, Hanama began their professional writing career after achieving recognition in the publishing industry. The author's debut came with the light novel series Cat-Eared Angel and Love Apple, for which the first volume was published in November 2013 by Media Factory under the MF Bunko J imprint. This work was preceded by receiving an honorable mention in the 9th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award in 2013, a accolade that helped establish their presence as a writer for the MF Bunko J label.

Following this initial success, Hanama authored the series Grimoire no Tate, which was published in two volumes between February and June 2015. The creator's most commercially significant and widely recognized work is the romantic comedy light novel series Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasuka?, often abbreviated as Hensuki. Published under the MF Bunko J imprint, the series ran for a total of fourteen volumes from January 2017 to January 2022. This series formed the foundation for a multimedia franchise that expanded into other formats.

The Hensuki series was adapted into a manga illustrated by CHuN, which was serialized in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine from November 2017 to February 2021 and compiled into six tankōbon volumes. A 12-episode anime television series adaptation produced by Geek Toys aired from July to September 2019, with Funimation licensing the series for North American distribution. Additional media related to the franchise included a drama CD released in May 2018 and a spin-off manga titled Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She's a Cutie? Abnormal Harem, which was published as a single volume in April 2020. Hanama's other notable work includes the light novel series Underwear Girl as You Like, which was published in three volumes from April 2022 to June 2023, again featuring illustrations by sune who had previously collaborated on Hensuki.

Hanama's body of work consistently falls within the genre of romantic comedy, frequently incorporating harem elements and eccentric character dynamics. The creator's narratives often center on a male protagonist who finds himself entangled with female characters possessing unusual or unconventional preferences, a premise that became the defining feature of Hensuki. The creative identity is marked by a focus on comedy derived from character quirks and situational irony, with works typically being published through MF Bunko J, a label known for light novels targeting a male demographic. The sustained publication history across several multi-volume series and the successful adaptation of Hensuki into an anime and manga demonstrate a consistent presence in the light novel industry, particularly within the MF Bunko J imprint where the author has remained active since their debut.
