Raj Ramayya is an Indo-Canadian singer, composer, lyricist, and voice actor known for his extensive work in the Japanese animation and video game industries. His career is characterized by frequent collaborations with renowned composer Yoko Kanno and a versatility that spans musical performance, songwriting, and character voice work.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, to a family of Indian heritage, Ramayya moved to Japan to pursue a career in music. He became a highly sought-after session singer and composer, contributing to hundreds of television commercials for major brands like Asahi Beer, Toyota, and KFC, as well as popular music game series such as Konami's Beatmania IIDX. This musical background led to a pivotal collaboration with composer Yoko Kanno, for whom he provided vocals for the soundtracks of iconic anime series, including Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain.

Ramayya's voice acting credits, while less numerous than his musical contributions, span several notable anime and video game titles. In anime, he provided the voice for the character Duma in the NHK educational series Little Charo 2. His other anime voice work includes the role of Jorg in the 2002 series Strange Dawn. He has a more extensive filmography in video games, where he voiced Bruce McGivern in Resident Evil: Dead Aim and Bakuryū in Bloody Roar 4. He also contributed additional voices to acclaimed games such as Shenmue II and Steel Battalion.

Throughout his career, Ramayya has maintained recurring creative partnerships. His most significant and well-documented collaboration is with composer Yoko Kanno, for whom he has performed and written lyrics on projects like Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Wolf's Rain. He has also frequently worked with music producer Tatsuya Oe and contributed as a vocalist for electronic music projects like Captain Funk and Studio Apartment.

Ramayya's contributions to anime music have earned him critical recognition and awards. His work on the soundtrack for the series Made in Abyss won Best Soundtrack at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and he received a Canadian Screen Award nomination in 2024 for his work on the same series. Earlier in his career, his film scoring project Bhang Lassi won a SIMPIA motion picture award for Best Canadian Soundtrack. As a performer, he has been a featured guest at numerous anime conventions across North America, reflecting his popularity and standing within the fan community.
