Icchokusen Mōkon
Description
Icchokusen Mōkon is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of the series Magical Girl Ore. This work represents the most significant and well-documented credit of their career as an original creator in the anime and manga industry.
Mōkon wrote and illustrated the original manga Magical Girl Ore, which began serialization in Fusion Product's Comic Be magazine in 2012. The series concluded its initial run in 2014 and was collected into two tankōbon volumes. The manga was later renewed for serialization in the same magazine beginning in 2014.
The creator's work gained wider recognition when Magical Girl Ore was adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series. The adaptation was produced by the studio Pierrot+ and aired from April 2 to June 18, 2018. This anime adaptation brought the distinctive premise of the original manga to a broader audience, establishing Mōkon as a creator within the magical girl genre.
Beyond Magical Girl Ore, Icchokusen Mōkon has contributed to several other manga publications. These include the series Watashi ga Iutoori ni Naru, which ran from 2015 to 2017 and was collected into three volumes, and Sonna Me de Mitekure, published from 2013 to 2014. Mōkon has also participated in anthology works, providing content for BL First Crush Anthology: Five Seconds Before We Fall in Love in 2021 and Fall in Heat: Verse BL Anthology in 2023. Additional contributions include the Demi-chan wa Kataritai Official Comic Anthology in 2017 and the Ishu Renai Monogatarishuu series beginning in 2016.
The creator's artistic identity is closely tied to parody and subversion of established genre conventions. Magical Girl Ore, their flagship work, directly parodies the magical girl genre by having its female protagonists transform into muscular men in magical girl costumes, contrasting the traditional aesthetic of cute, frilly outfits with a deliberately incongruous and comedic result. The work also incorporates elements of gender bender and yakuza themes through its mascot character. This approach to deconstructing and humorously reinterpreting familiar tropes defines Mōkon's most recognized contribution to the medium.
