Ichiei Ishibumi is a Japanese novelist and the original creator of the long-running light novel and media franchise High School DxD. Born on April 25, 1981, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Ishibumi began his professional writing career after receiving a special prize in the 17th Fantasia Awards, a competition hosted by Fujimi Shobo, in 2005. The submission that earned this recognition was a light novel titled Denpachi, which was subsequently published as a tankōbon volume in 2006, marking his official debut as a published author. Later the same year, he released his second light novel, Slash/Dog.

Ishibumi is best known for creating the High School DxD series, a work that has become his signature contribution to Japanese pop culture. The first light novel volume was published in 2008 under Fujimi Shobo's Fantasia Bunko imprint, and the series continued with regular releases, ultimately spanning twenty-five main volumes that concluded in March 2018. The franchise expanded with a sequel series, Shin High School DxD, which began publication in July 2018.
