Sadanatsu Anda

Description
Sadanatsu Anda is a Japanese novelist and the original creator of the Kokoro Connect series. Born on August 8, 1988, in Osaka Prefecture, he is a graduate of Kobe University. His career as a writer began during his university years when his submission, originally titled Hito Tsunagari Te, Doko e Yuku, won the Special Prize in the novel division of the 11th Enterbrain Entame Awards in 2009. This award-winning work was later revised and retitled, leading to his debut in 2010 as the author of the light novel series Kokoro Connect under the Famitsu Bunko imprint.

Anda is best known for creating the Kokoro Connect franchise. The original light novel series, featuring illustrations by Shiromizakana, ran for eleven volumes published by Enterbrain between January 2010 and September 2013. The success of the light novels led to multiple adaptations, all of which credit Anda as the original author. These include two manga adaptations: one illustrated by Cuteg and serialized in Famitsu Comic Clear, and another titled Kokoro Connect On Air illustrated by Na! and serialized in Nyantype magazine. The series was also adapted into a thirteen-episode anime television series produced by Silver Link, which aired in 2012, followed by four additional episodes. Furthermore, a visual novel for the PlayStation Portable, Kokoro Connect Yochi Random, was released in 2012.

While Kokoro Connect remains his most prominent work, Anda has authored several other light novel series. His subsequent works include the five-volume series Aoi Haru no Subete, also published under Famitsu Bunko with illustrations by Shiromizakana; Kyou ga Saigo no Ningen da to Shite mo; and 15-sai demo Ore no Yome! Kosai 0-nichi Kekkon kara Hajimeru Shoten Sensou, published under the MF Bunko J imprint. He also contributed a spin-off novel for the anime film Goodbye, Don Glees! titled Goodbye, Don Glees! Offshot.

Thematically, Anda’s work, particularly in Kokoro Connect, often explores the psychology of interpersonal relationships among high school students, placing them in extraordinary circumstances. The series is noted for its use of supernatural phenomena, such as involuntary body-swapping and the manifestation of uncontrollable impulses, to test and deepen the bonds of friendship. These narrative devices serve as catalysts for character development, forcing the protagonists to confront their own insecurities and the hidden aspects of their personalities, thereby driving the story's focus on drama and romance within a school setting.

Anda’s significance in the industry is marked by his successful debut, which transitioned from a contest-winning entry to a major multimedia franchise. The Kokoro Connect series achieved notable commercial and critical reach, with its light novels, manga adaptations, and anime series all receiving international distribution and translations, including English releases from Seven Seas Entertainment for the manga and Sentai Filmworks for the anime.
