Amatou
Description
Amatou is a Japanese manga artist and original creator, recognized as the author of the four-panel comedy manga series Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san, known in English as Ms. Vampire Who Lives in My Neighborhood. Amatou is originally from Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The pen name Amatou translates to "sweet tooth," and the creator is also associated with the doujin circle name Hitomishiri.
Amatou began serializing Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san in Media Factory's seinen manga magazine Comic Cune in August 2014. The series was initially published as a supplement within Monthly Comic Alive before Comic Cune became an independent magazine in August 2015. The manga concluded its serialization in December 2021 and was collected into eight tankobon volumes. Beyond this primary work, Amatou contributed as a writer and artist for the anthology Jingai no Yome to Ichaicha suru: Anthology Comic in December 2016 and also worked on The iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls - Shuffle!! Comic Anthology in August 2012. Amatou is noted for primarily drawing adult comics in addition to mainstream four-panel manga.
The manga Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san received an anime television series adaptation co-produced by the animation studios Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ. The anime aired in Japan from October 5 to December 21, 2018. While Amatou is credited as the original creator of the work, the anime adaptation was directed by Noriyaki Akitaya with series composition by Tatsuya Takahashi. The story follows a young girl named Akari who becomes fascinated with a vampire named Sophie Twilight, leading to a comedic cohabitation story that blends slice-of-life and supernatural elements.
