Nobuaki Kanazawa

Description
Nobuaki Kanazawa is a Japanese novelist and manga screenwriter born in 1982 in Hiroshima Prefecture. He is best known as the original creator of the horror suspense series King's Game. Writing under the pen name Pakkuncho, Kanazawa initially worked as a systems engineer while pursuing his writing career. He first serialized the original King's Game story as a cell phone novel on the Japanese platform E☆Everystar, where its popularity led to a formal publication as a series of light novels.

The core narrative of King's Game revolves around a deadly set of commands sent to a group of students by a mysterious entity known as the "King," with failure to obey a command resulting in death. The original novel series was published by Futabasha and ran from 2009 to 2015, spanning twelve volumes. From this foundation, Kanazawa developed a substantial multimedia franchise. He wrote the screenplays for several manga adaptations and spin-offs, including King's Game illustrated by Hitori Renda, King's Game Extreme illustrated by Renji Kuriyama, King's Game Origin illustrated by Jeita Yamada, and King's Game Spiral. In addition to the King's Game saga, Kanazawa authored another horror novel titled Tomogui, which translates to Cannibalism.

A notable and recurring characteristic of Kanazawa's work is his use of his own name for the protagonist of the King's Game series. This choice blurs the line between the author and the fictional character who endures the traumatic events of the narrative. The artistic identity of his works is firmly rooted in the horror and psychological thriller genres, specifically within the death game subgenre where ordinary people are forced to follow lethal rules. The success of his original novel led to significant industry recognition, with his story being adapted into multiple formats. The franchise includes a live-action film adaptation released in 2011 and an anime television series titled King's Game The Animation, produced by Studio Seven and broadcast in 2017, for which Kanazawa is credited as the original creator.
