Description
Makoto Kudo is the writer and illustrator of the Japanese manga series My Awkward Senpai, known in Japanese as Bukiyō na Senpai. This work represents Kudo's primary credited contribution to the manga and anime industry as an original creator. The series began as a webcomic published on Kudo's Twitter account in March 2019 before transitioning to traditional print serialization. It started running in Square Enix's seinen manga magazine Young Gangan on December 6, 2019, and has been collected into multiple tankōbon volumes, with the ninth volume released in March 2025. The series is published in English digitally by Comikey and through Square Enix's Manga UP! Global application.
The story focuses on a workplace romantic comedy centered on Kannawa-senpai, a well-meaning but socially awkward woman, and her interactions with her kōhai, Kamegawa. The manga achieved enough recognition to rank fifth in the print category at the sixth Next Manga Awards.
An anime television adaptation of My Awkward Senpai was announced on December 16, 2024. Produced by Studio Elle and directed by Ayumu Kotake, the series premiered on October 2, 2025.
