Haguki

Description
Haguki is the original creator credited for the anime and manga series Hato no Oyomesan. The name Haguki is a pseudonym for Souta Sugahara, a Japanese artist, animator, and musician born in Tokyo on August 16, 1979. Sugahara first entered the entertainment industry in 1997 as a member of the indie rock band HAGUKI, which was later known as B-DASH. He eventually left the band but continued to contribute artwork for their mascot character and music videos. The band name, HAGUKI, was subsequently adopted as his pen name for creative work in manga and anime.

Sugahara made his debut as a manga artist in 1999 at the age of nineteen. His first serialized work was the CG-Manga Minna no Tonio-chan, which ran for two years in the weekly magazine SPA!. One chapter of this manga, titled 500 Million Year Button, later became a well-known internet meme in Japan and internationally, inspiring many derivative fan works. In 2000, under the name Haguki, he began serializing the gag manga Hato no Oyomesan in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine. The series follows the surreal daily life of a bride who joins the unusual Hatou family, which includes various strange animals. The manga was still being published as of 2011, with nine compiled book volumes released by that time.

In January 2011, an anime adaptation of Hato no Oyomesan was announced. The television anime was produced by the animation studio DLE and premiered on Nippon Television Network in April 2011. The series retained the gag humor and surreal tone of the original four-panel manga. The anime is credited as being based on the manga by Haguki, confirming the direct link between the pseudonym and the source material.

Beyond his work as Haguki, Souta Sugahara is known as a multitalented creator whose career spans numerous roles. He has worked in planning, 3DCG animation, direction, screenwriting, character design, graphic design, video production, editing, and voice acting. He remains active in the industry, with a career in entertainment beginning in 1999 and continuing to the present day.
