Garry Chalk is an English-Canadian actor extensively recognized for his prolific work as a voice actor in animated series, particularly within the realm of anime and western animation dubs. Born in Southampton, Hampshire, England, in 1952, he immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, with his family at the age of five. Initially considering a career in teaching, he was inspired to pursue acting after seeing a college play and subsequently trained at Studio 58 in Vancouver. His professional career began in theatre in 1978, performing with numerous companies across Canada, and he has since built a career spanning both on-camera and voice acting roles in thousands of productions.

Chalk is most renowned for his signature deep and authoritative voice, which has led to him being cast in numerous iconic roles within the Transformers franchise. He is best known as the voice of Optimus Primal in the series Beast Wars: Transformers and its sequel Beast Machines. He later voiced another iteration of the character Optimus Prime in the anime-influenced English dubs of Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon, and Transformers: Cybertron, which are often collectively referred to as the Unicron Trilogy. His work within this single franchise has cemented his status as a central figure for fans of the series.

Beyond Transformers, Chalk's voice acting portfolio is vast and diverse, encompassing a wide range of characters in animated and anime-dubbed productions. He provided the voice of Doctor Ivo Robotnik in Sonic Underground and Grounder in The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
