Usata Nonohara

Description
Usata Nonohara is a Japanese author best known as the creator of the light novel series The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life. The author's name appears in its original Japanese form as のの原兎太.

Nonohara's primary and most well-documented work is The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life (Ikinokori Renkinjutsushi wa Machi de Shizuka ni Kurashitai), which began as a light novel series. The first volume was published in Japan by Kadokawa Corporation in 2017. The series spans multiple volumes, with illustrations provided by the artist Ox. The English language edition of the light novel is published by Yen Press.

The series has been adapted into manga format on two separate occasions. The first manga adaptation began in 2018, with art by Guru Mizoguchi. This version was published in English by Yen Press starting in 2019. A second manga adaptation, featuring art by Aya Obara, was launched in 2021. In this version, Nonohara is credited as the original story author, with Ox again handling the character design.

The narrative premise for which Nonohara is credited follows a young alchemist named Mariela who escapes a catastrophic monster attack by placing herself in suspended animation, only to awaken two hundred years later as the last surviving alchemist in a world where potions have become a rare luxury. The story focuses on her attempts to live a quiet, peaceful life while keeping her abilities secret.
