Kyoichi Nanatsuki is a Japanese manga writer and scriptwriter known for his work as an original creator across numerous manga series, several of which have been adapted into anime. His professional alias is written in Japanese as 七月鏡一. Born on July 30, 1968, in Hokkaido, his real name is Kentaro Itamoto. He studied at Sapporo Hoshino High School and later attended Rissho University, where he majored in history in the Faculty of Letters and completed graduate studies in the same field.

Nanatsuki began his professional career after winning the first Sunday Original Manga Grand Prize for the story Outside Sword. His first major work was the manga Jesus, created with illustrator Yoshihide Fujiwara, which ran from 1992 to 1995. This collaboration began a long and productive partnership between Nanatsuki and Fujiwara.

He is best known as the writer for the manga Arms, which was illustrated by Ryoji Minagawa. The series was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday from March 1997 to April 2002 and collected into 22 volumes. In 1999, Arms received the Shogakukan Manga Award for the shonen category. The story follows four teenagers who discover their bodies have been genetically engineered with advanced nanomachine technology called ARMS, leading them to confront a secret organization known as the Egrigori. This manga was adapted into an anime television series titled Project ARMS, produced by TMS Entertainment, which aired in 2001.

Beyond his most famous work, Nanatsuki has built a substantial career as a manga writer, frequently collaborating with various artists. His other notable original works include Yami no Aegis (Aegis in the Dark) with Yoshihide Fujiwara, serialized from 2000 to 2006, and its sequel Akatsuki no Aegis (Aegis in the Dawn) from 2008 to 2009. He also wrote The Arms Peddler with artist Night Owl, which began serialization in 2010, and Area D with artist Yang Kyung-Il, which ran from 2012 to 2016. His more recent projects include Gijin with artist Manyo Asahi, which concluded in 2021, and Tsukimonogakari, also with Asahi, which launched in 2022.

Throughout his career, Nanatsuki has primarily worked as a scriptwriter or story concept provider rather than an illustrator. His body of work is predominantly in the shonen and seinen genres, frequently incorporating themes of action, science fiction, supernatural phenomena, and martial arts. His recurring collaborations with specific artists, particularly Yoshihide Fujiwara, demonstrate a consistent creative approach within the manga industry. He has also written adaptations of existing properties, such as Virtua Fighter and Samurai Spirits, and continues to be an active creator.
