Oreko Tachibana

Description
Oreco Tachibana is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the series Firefly Wedding and Promise Cinderella. She began her artistic career in 2016 by posting acrylic landscape paintings on social media. While caring for her children, she developed a following by self-publishing manga projects and illustrations on the Pixiv platform. Her work attracted the attention of professional editors, leading to her commercial debut in 2017 with the one-shot manga Shunin-sama to Shinjin-kun (Supervisor and Newcomer), which was published on Shogakukan's MangaONE platform. The following year, she launched her first serialized work, Promise Cinderella, which ran from 2018 to 2022 on MangaONE and Ura Sunday. A spin-off of that series, titled Promise Cinderella #Strike One, was also published. Her subsequent major serialization, Firefly Wedding, began publication in 2023. Several of her other one-shot works include Tsundere Orihime, Muteki no Chocolate, and Enkyori Renai.

Tachibana has described herself as a reserved and shy individual, and she has stated that she often creates female protagonists who are frank and determined, serving as a contrast to her own personality. She has cited her husband's outspoken nature and their discussions about differing life experiences as a direct inspiration for the character dynamics in Promise Cinderella. For Firefly Wedding, she has explained that the concept originated from her fascination with the fictional trope of a relationship between a psychopathic killer and a princess. The story is set in the Meiji era, a period she selected after conducting extensive research, including visits to museums, to accurately depict the historical context. She has expressed a preference for writing couples composed of two strong individuals and for placing her main characters in challenging situations from which they can grow. Tachibana is self-taught as an artist and has mentioned that she visualizes scenes as if they were from a television drama before drawing them. Her favorite films include Titanic and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and she has named the Korean series Crash Landing on You as an influence.

Promise Cinderella was adapted into a live-action television drama in Japan in 2021. Tachibana has also contributed to the anime industry as a character designer for the series Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de. She has stated that she is given significant creative freedom by her publisher regarding the pacing and development of her stories. Her works have been licensed for international release, including English and French editions.
