Hajime Segawa
Description
Hajime Segawa is a Japanese manga artist and character designer born in Tokyo, Japan. His professional debut came in March 2005 with a short story adaptation of the video game Phantom Kingdom, published in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shonen Ace magazine.
Segawa is best known as the original creator of the manga series Ga-Rei, which began serialization in Monthly Shonen Ace in December 2005 and concluded in March 2010, spanning twelve volumes. This series was adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series titled Ga-Rei-Zero, which aired in October 2008. The anime serves as a prequel to the events of the original manga.
Following the completion of Ga-Rei, Segawa launched his second major series, Tokyo ESP, which ran in Monthly Shonen Ace from April 2010 to September 2016 and was collected in sixteen volumes. The manga was adapted into an anime television series that premiered in July 2014. Both the Ga-Rei-Zero and Tokyo ESP anime productions credit Segawa as the original creator.
Segawa's body of work is characterized by recurring themes of supernatural phenomena and psychic abilities, frequently set in a contemporary Tokyo with teenage protagonists. His artistic identity includes creating works that blend action sequences with elements of surreal comedy. In addition to his major series, he has authored several other manga, including the short series Yūreisen Chronicle (2016), Raise Kamika (2017-2019), and Shikabane Gatana (2020-2022). He has also contributed as an original story writer for projects like Dengeki Travelers, which featured art by another illustrator. Later works include Tensei shi no Kuro no Botan, a series for which he provides the art based on an original story by a different author, which began serialization in 2022.
