Nikumura Q
Description
Nikumura Q is the writer and illustrator of the manga series Giant Ojō-sama, which is confirmed to be receiving a television anime adaptation produced by Tatsunoko Production. The manga is a comedy that centers on Oriko Fujidō, a wealthy young heiress who gains the ability to grow to gigantic proportions. After a giant monster attacks her city, her butler gives her a drink that transforms her, and she attempts to protect her home, though her new size often leads to accidental chaos and destruction.
Giant Ojō-sama began as a web comic posted on Shueisha's Jump Rookie website in December 2020. The series later moved to Shogakukan's Sunday Webry website, where it has been serialized since July 2021. The first collected tankōbon volume was released in November 2021, and as of April 2024, nine volumes have been published by Shogakukan. The manga was nominated for the eighth Next Manga Awards in 2022 and placed fifth in AnimeJapan's sixth "Most Wanted Anime Adaptation" poll in 2023. To celebrate the anime announcement, Shogakukan made all chapters of the manga available for free for a limited 48-hour period. The tenth volume was scheduled for release in March 2025.
Nikumura Q's artistic identity in Giant Ojō-sama is characterized by a comedic and wholesome tone that avoids graphic violence or darker elements often associated with the giant genre, making the work accessible to a broad audience. The premise embraces its absurd central concept directly, focusing on charm and humor rather than dramatic stakes. With the upcoming television anime adaptation, Nikumura Q's work represents a notable example of a web comic origin story transitioning to serialized print publication and then to anime production, highlighting the role of digital manga platforms like Sunday Webry in discovering and cultivating new original creators.
