Bino

Description
Bino is a Japanese manga artist and the original creator behind the anime and live-action adaptations of Joshi Kōsei no Mudazukai, which is also known as Wasteful Days of High School Girl. She is a female artist who was born in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, and has been active as a professional creator since 2015.

Bino made her debut as a manga artist by starting the serialization of Joshi Kōsei no Mudazukai on the niconico Seiga website in December 2015. The work attracted the attention of Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype web manga site, where it was relaunched as a long-term serialization. The series faced an interruption and was cancelled in July 2017, but it was later revived and resumed serialization in April 2018. This work serves as her primary claim to fame and is her most recognized creation. The manga inspired a television anime adaptation that aired from July to September 2019, followed by a live-action television drama that premiered on TV Asahi in January 2020.

In addition to her breakout work, Bino authored a second manga series titled Uchuu toka to Kurabetara Chippoke na Mondai desu ga, which roughly translates to Compared to the Universe, It's a Trivial Problem. This series was serialized on Comic Newtype from November 2017 and concluded in October 2022, with its complete publication spanning three collected volumes. After a hiatus in 2021, during which she gave birth to her first child, a son, Bino returned to regular publication. She launched a new essay manga series in September 2023 called Emotional Aka-chan-ki: Ningen o Ninen Sodatete Mita, or Emotional Baby Period: I Raised a Human for Two Years. This work departs from her earlier school comedy setting and instead presents humorous autobiographical stories about her experiences raising her young son. The series reflects a shift toward more personal and domestic subject matter, chronicling the realities of early parenthood.

Regarding her artistic identity, Bino is known for her work within the comedy genre, often focusing on character-driven humor and the absurdities of everyday life, as exemplified by the eccentric and aimless girls in Joshi Kōsei no Mudazukai. Her more recent essay manga continues this focus on observational comedy, now applied to her family life. A distinctive aspect of her creative environment is her collaboration with her husband, with whom she operates the online account Low-income P. Together, they produce VOCALOID songs, some of which, including tracks such as auLelia and little bunny, were used as insert songs in the anime adaptation of Joshi Kōsei no Mudazukai.

In terms of industry significance, Bino represents a path to success for manga artists originating from online webcomic platforms. Her career demonstrates how a digital-first publication on a site like niconico Seiga can transition to a major publisher such as Kadokawa and subsequently spawn multimedia adaptations, including anime and live-action television. Her work has been published under the Kadokawa Comics Ace imprint, and her serializations have consistently appeared on the Comic Newtype platform. Her experience, including the initial cancellation and subsequent revival of her debut series, as well as her transparent approach to taking hiatus for maternity leave, adds to her profile as a contemporary creator navigating both the professional demands of the industry and personal milestones.
