Takibi Amamori
Description
Takibi Amamori is a Japanese light novel writer best known as the creator of the Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! series. Amamori was born in Toyohashi City in Aichi Prefecture and lived there until graduating from high school. The interest in light novels began in middle school, prompted by a friend, and by high school, Amamori had started writing fiction. This interest continued in university through membership in a literary club, during which time two submissions to newcomer writing awards were rejected in the first round.
After university, the demands of an office job led to a hiatus from writing that lasted roughly two decades. In the early forties, Amamori decided to pursue the earlier dream of becoming a writer and resumed creative work. This decision culminated in 2020 with winning the 15th Shogakukan Light Novel Grand Prize, receiving the Gagaga Award. The winning submission was a short story titled Ore wa Hyottoshite, Saishuuwa de Make Heroin no Yokoniiru Pottode Mobukyara nano darou ka, which was subsequently retitled and expanded into the debut light novel series.
The official debut work, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, began publication in July 2021 under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint with illustrations by Imigimuru. The series centers on an introspective high school student who becomes an observer and confidant to several popular girls after witnessing their romantic rejections, a premise that focuses on the perspectives of heroines who do not win the affections of their love interests. The work was later adapted into a manga series illustrated by Itachi, which began serialization in Shogakukan's Ura Sunday and MangaOne services in April 2022. An anime television adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures premiered in July 2024, and a second season was announced to be in production the following year. The light novel and manga have been licensed for English release by Seven Seas Entertainment.
In creative statements, Amamori has cited the manga series The Dangers in My Heart and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War as works that have been particularly influential on personal creative activities. Following the increased popularity of the franchise brought by the anime adaptation, Amamori left the long-held office job to dedicate full-time to writing.
