Penguin Box

Description
Penguin Box is a Japanese illustrator and manga artist known for creating the series Odekake Kozame. The creator first published this work as a web manga on Twitter in June 2021, where the story of a young shark on daily outings quickly gained attention. Following this online success, the series was picked up for formal serialization by Kadokawa Corporation's Enterbrain imprint, beginning in the magazine Aokishi in October 2021. The compiled chapters have been released as tankōbon volumes by Chukei Publishing under the Kitora imprint, with the first volume appearing in January 2022 and four volumes available as of October 2023.

The artist's work is categorized with a seinen demographic and falls within the slice-of-life genre. The narrative focuses on the nostalgic and heartwarming everyday adventures of Kozame-chan, a small, curious shark exploring her surroundings and interacting with the world. The original net animation adaptation, also titled Odekake Kozame, was produced by studio ENGI and directed by Marina Maki, with Hiroaki Nagashima handling the scripts. The series of short, one-minute episodes premiered on YouTube on August 1, 2023, and concluded its run of sixty episodes on May 10, 2024. The anime featured voice actress Kana Hanazawa as the voice of Kozame-chan and performed its theme song. Following the conclusion of the net animation, a new anime project was announced, which was later revealed to be a film titled Odekake Kozame: Tokai no Otomodachi, scheduled for production in 2025.

Within the industry, Penguin Box is primarily recognized as the original creator of this property, having contributed the source material and original character designs for the anime adaptation. The creator maintains a presence on social media, using the handle @Penguinbox1, where the initial manga chapters were first shared and continue to be promoted. No other notable original manga or anime works by Penguin Box are documented in available records.
