Usonan is a South Korean creator known as the original author of the web novel A Returner's Magic Should Be Special. The web novel was serialized on the Korean digital platform KakaoPage from September 2016 to August 2019. This original story serves as the foundation for a subsequent manhwa adaptation and a Japanese anime television series.

The original web novel was later compiled into eight collected volumes, published by D&C Media from June 30, 2017, to November 27, 2019. The story follows Desir Herman, a magician who, after a catastrophic failure to save humanity from a calamity known as the Shadow World, finds himself transported thirteen years into the past. He uses the knowledge of his previous timeline to change the future, protect his companions, and prevent the destruction of the world.

The work was adapted into a manhwa, or Korean comic, illustrated by the artist Wookjakga. This adaptation began serialization on KakaoPage in May 2018. The manhwa has been published in print by D&C Media and has been licensed for English release by Yen Press.

An anime television adaptation, titled Kikansha no Mahō wa Tokubetsu Desu, was produced by the animation studio Arvo Animation. It premiered in Japan in October 2023. In the anime's credits, Usonan is officially credited as the original creator based on the web novel.
