Rieko Hinata

Description
Rieko Hinata is a Japanese author and creator, primarily known for writing children's literature and fantasy novels. She was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in 1984. Her most significant and recognized work is the fantasy novel series The Fire Hunter, which serves as the foundation for an anime adaptation of the same name.

Hinata is the sole credited author of The Fire Hunter novel series, originally titled Hikari no Ō. The story is set in a distant future where humanity has been biologically altered to combust instantly in the presence of natural fire, forcing civilization to rely on the blood of demonic Fire Fiends as an alternative fuel source. The novels were published by Holp Shuppan, with illustrations provided by artist Akihiro Yamada. The series consists of four volumes, released between December 2018 and September 2020.

The commercial and critical success of Hinata's novels led to a major anime television adaptation. The anime was produced by the studio Signal.MD, with Junji Nishimura directing and renowned filmmaker Mamoru Oshii handling the scripts and series composition. The first season of The Fire Hunter aired from January to March 2023, and a second season followed from January to March 2024, for a total of twenty episodes. In this adaptation process, Hinata is officially credited with the original work, while the screenplay and direction are handled by other industry figures. The anime adaptation has introduced her story to a wider global audience through streaming platforms.

Beyond her primary identity as a novelist, no other major original manga or anime works are attributed to Hinata in available records. Her significance in the industry is tied directly to The Fire Hunter as an original intellectual property that has been successfully adapted into a complete television series. The recurring themes in her known work, as evidenced by The Fire Hunter, include survival in a hostile world, the weight of responsibility passed between generations, and a detailed exploration of a society built around a single, dangerous resource.
