Izumi Sawano
Description
Izumi Sawano is the original creator of the light novel series I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons. The series began as a web novel serialized on the user-generated platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō, running from August 2018 to May 2019. It was subsequently acquired for print publication by Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, which released the first light novel volume in April 2019 under its PASH! Books imprint, with illustrations by Miru Yumesaki. The series has since expanded into a broader multimedia franchise.
Beyond I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons, Sawano is credited as the author of several other Japanese-language light novels and manga, with a focus on stories categorized within the shojo and josei demographics. These other titles include Sofia Has New Plans for Marriage and I Woke Up As a Notorious Troublemaker!.
The success of the original light novel led to a manga adaptation. The manga is written by Izumi Sawano and illustrated by Uri Sugata, having been serialized on Shufu to Seikatsu Sha's PASH UP! website since March 2020. Both the light novel series and the manga adaptation have been licensed for English publication in North America by J-Novel Club and Seven Seas Entertainment, respectively. The growing popularity of the franchise culminated in an anime television series adaptation produced by EMT Squared, which aired from January to March 2025.
