Rokuro Uraji
Description
Rokuro Uraji is the original creator of the Japanese light novel series Zombie no Afureta Sekai de Ore Dake ga Osowarenai, also known as In a World Full of Zombies I'm the Only One Who Doesn't Get Attacked. Uraji first began writing this story as a web novel, serializing it online in January 2013. The work was published on the Nocturne Novels section of the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, a platform known for its male adult-oriented content.
The series was later acquired for print publication by Frontier Works. The light novel, illustrated by Saburō, has been released under Frontier Works' Nox Novels imprint, with three volumes published between February 2016 and March 2017. Due to its publication history, the original work is often categorized as an adult-oriented title.
The narrative of Zombie no Afureta Sekai de Ore Dake ga Osowarenai follows Yūsuke Takemura, a cynical office worker who dislikes people and has become a shut-in. After a mysterious attacker bites him, he falls ill and awakens to find the world overrun by a zombie apocalypse. He soon discovers that, for unknown reasons, he is the only human that the zombies do not attack. The story details his survival in this post-apocalyptic setting, focusing on his self-serving approach to living in a collapsed civilization.
The popularity of Uraji's original work led to multiple adaptations. A manga adaptation illustrated by Chihiro Masuda began serialization on Frontier Works' Comic Ragchew website in June 2021. This manga adaptation is published in full color and has been collected into several tankōbon volumes. Furthermore, an anime television series adaptation was announced, scheduled to premiere in 2026 on the Japanese network AT-X, which is known for broadcasting uncut and adult-oriented content.
Uraji's work falls within the zombie-panic action genre. A recurring theme in the original story is the exploration of survival from the perspective of a protagonist who holds a distinct advantage over the zombie threat. The premise focuses on how a selfish and misanthropic individual navigates a lawless world where he faces no danger from the primary threat, allowing him to act on his own desires. The series is noted for containing mature themes, including violence and sexual content, a characteristic consistent with its origin on an adult-oriented web novel platform.
