Hyun Dong Han

Hyun Dong Han is a South Korean manhwa artist and illustrator known primarily as the creator of the long-running educational comic series Survival, which has been adapted into multiple anime films and a television series. He studied manhwa, or Korean comics, in the Department of Cartoon Art at Kongju National University.
His professional debut came in 2001 with the series New Tales of the Nine Tailed Fox, which ran for six years. Following this debut, he became known for other works such as Ghost Tunes. His most prominent and internationally recognized work is the Survival series, which he created in collaboration with the content creation company Gomdori Co. The series, known in Japan as Kagaku Manga Survival, is published in South Korea by Mirae N Co., Ltd. and in Japan by Asahi Shimbun Publications.
The Survival series is an educational manhwa that follows children in adventurous situations while integrating scientific information into the story. Launched in 2008, the series has grown to encompass over 85 volumes and has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. Its popularity led to multiple anime adaptations, beginning with a short original net animation produced by Toei Animation in 2019. Two anime films followed: Survive! Inside the Human Body in 2020 and Survive! In the Deep Sea in 2021. A television anime series titled Kagaku x Bouken Survival! premiered in October 2024, with a second season announced for October 2025.
