Nozomi Ginyoku

Description
Nozomi Ginyoku is a Japanese author and creator known primarily for originating light novel series that have been adapted into manga and anime. Ginyoku began publishing stories in 2017 on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, a common starting point for many successful light novelists.

The first and most prominent work by Ginyoku is I'm a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl's Pet, which began serialization on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in August 2017. The series was later acquired for print publication by Micro Magazine under its GC Novels imprint, with the first light novel volume released in March 2018 featuring illustrations by Mitsuki Yano. A manga adaptation illustrated by Taro Shinonome began serialization in Hakusensha's Young Animal Arashi magazine in March 2018 before transferring to Young Animal magazine later that year. The franchise expanded further with an anime television series produced by Zero-G and Saber Works, which aired from January to March 2025. For the manga adaptation, Ginyoku is credited as the original story author and scriptwriter.

A second notable work by Ginyoku is The Skeleton Enchanted by the Cursed Blade: The Greatest Demon Lord, Who Conquers the Dungeon and Commands an Invincible Army, which began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in July 2019. A manga adaptation illustrated by Nobuhisa Tsuruoka ran in Hakusensha's Young Animal Zero magazine from September 2021 until its conclusion in November 2025. The story follows a skeleton monster who gains extraordinary abilities after a fateful encounter with a sentient cursed blade.

Thematically, Ginyoku's works frequently explore fantasy settings where protagonists are reincarnated or exist as monsters. In I'm a Behemoth, the main character is a knight reborn as a behemoth, one of the most powerful monsters, who is mistaken for a common cat. Similarly, The Skeleton Enchanted by the Cursed Blade centers on a skeleton, typically considered the weakest of dungeon monsters, who rises to power through extraordinary circumstances. Both series emphasize the contrast between perceived weakness and true strength, with protagonists navigating worlds where their appearance belies their capabilities.

In terms of industry significance, I'm a Behemoth has achieved commercial success, with over 750,000 copies in circulation across its light novel and manga formats in Japan as of early 2022. The manga adaptation has been collected into thirteen tankōbon volumes as of July 2025, while the light novel series comprises two volumes. Both the light novel and manga have been licensed for English publication by Yen Press, extending the work's international reach. The manga adaptation of The Skeleton Enchanted by the Cursed Blade has also been licensed for English release by Yen Press. Ginyoku's career follows a trajectory common to successful web novel authors, transitioning from online serialization to professional print publication and multimedia adaptation.
