Yūsuke Katayama
Description
Yūsuke Katayama is a Japanese voice actor and former comedian born on May 29, 1980, in Osaka Prefecture. He is affiliated with the entertainment company Shochiku. Before focusing on voice acting, Katayama was a comedic performer. In 2005, he formed the comedy duo Hikarigoke with another member, where he served as the boke or funny man. The duo was active until officially disbanding on December 31, 2014.
Katayama's interest in entertainment began during his high school years when he entered an amateur comedy contest with a friend. Although their performance did not go well, this experience motivated him to pursue comedy more seriously, with the goal of continuing until he could successfully make an audience laugh. Following the dissolution of his comedy duo, Katayama transitioned to a new phase in his career, announcing in July 2015 that he would begin training as a rakugo storyteller under the name Shōkōtei Chakō.
As a voice actor, Katayama is known for his role as Atsukyō Tōno in The New Prince of Tennis franchise. He has voiced this character in multiple related projects, including the video game The New Prince of Tennis: RisingBeat and the original video animation The New Prince of Tennis OVA vs Genius10. He also provided a voice for a minor character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.
Throughout his voice acting career, Katayama has had recurring professional collaborations with a wide range of prominent voice actors. He has worked alongside established talents such as宫野真守, 諏訪部順一, 浪川大輔, 津田健次郎, 檜山修之, and 福山潤, among many others, indicating his regular participation in the voice acting industry.
