Kogitsunemaru

Description
Kogitsunemaru is a Japanese writer recognized as the original creator of the light novel series, manga, and anime "Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time," which is also known by the title "Someday Will I Be The Greatest Alchemist?". The creator's work falls within the isekai genre, a popular category in Japanese fantasy where a character is transported to or reborn in a different world.

The original web novel series began serialization online in August 2017. The success of the web novel led to a print light novel adaptation, with the first volume published in February 2018 by AlphaPolis, featuring illustrations by Hitogome. The light novel series has since grown to include seventeen volumes as of December 2024. A manga adaptation illustrated by Tarō Sasakama began serialization on AlphaPolis's manga website in August 2018, and the compiled chapters have been collected into eight tankōbon volumes as of December 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Studio Comet aired twelve episodes from January to March 2025.

The story follows Takumi Iruma, a salaryman who is accidentally caught in a hero-summoning spell and transported to the fantasy world of Mildgard. After being resurrected by the goddess Nolyn, he is granted the power of alchemy, which allows him to create a vast array of items. The narrative primarily focuses on Takumi's desire to live a peaceful life, a goal that becomes complicated as his extraordinary abilities draw significant attention from powerful forces in his new world. Thematically, Kogitsunemaru's work centers on an unwilling protagonist whose accidental possession of immense power forces him into an adventure he never sought, a common trope within the isekai genre.

Kogitsunemaru is significant as an author who successfully transitioned from self-publishing a web novel online to securing a comprehensive multimedia franchise. The work has been adapted into three distinct formats: a light novel series, a serialized manga, and a full anime television production, indicating a successful and popular property within the competitive Japanese fantasy market. The series is published by AlphaPolis, which has also made the manga available in English through its Alpha Manga digital service.
