Kamio Fukuchi
Description
Kamio Fukuchi is a Japanese manga artist known for creating romantic comedy and lighthearted shōnen series. Fukuchi was born on April 3, 1997, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. She began her professional career at a young age while still in high school, debuting in 2014 at the age of 16. Her debut work, a short manga titled Neko to Hito to Allergy to (Cat, Person, and Allergy), was published in Weekly Shōnen Champion and earned her a prize in the magazine's 81st Newcomer Manga Awards.
After her debut, Fukuchi continued publishing short works and one-shot stories in Weekly Shōnen Champion throughout her high school years. Following her graduation, she launched her first serialized manga, Cat God Jarashi! (Nekogami Jarashi!), in 2016, which ran until 2017 and was collected into four volumes. She followed this with Kaiju no Tokage (Monster Lizard), a manga based on an original concept by fellow creator Yamamoto Sōichirō, serialized in Bessatsu Shōnen Champion from 2019 to 2020. That series was compiled into three volumes.
Fukuchi is best known as the creator of Yowayowa Sensei, also known as Yowayowa Teacher or Weak-Willed Teacher. The manga began serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine on November 16, 2022, and remains ongoing. As of late 2025, the series has been collected into fifteen tankōbon volumes. The story follows Akihito Abikura, a high school student who discovers that his new, shy English teacher, Hiyori Hiwarimura, is misunderstood by her students who find her timid behavior frightening and nickname her Scary Teacher. A television anime adaptation of Yowayowa Sensei has been announced for an April 2026 premiere, produced by the animation studio Brain's Base.
Fukuchi's body of work is characterized by light romantic comedy, slice-of-life scenarios, and youthful, earnest protagonists. Her artistic identity often explores themes of overcoming personal weaknesses and the comedy that arises from misunderstandings. She primarily works within the shōnen demographic, targeting young male readers, and her series consistently blend humor with character-driven relationship development. Her transition from Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion to Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine for Yowayowa Sensei marked a significant step in her career, placing her work in one of Japan's most prominent manga publications. The upcoming anime adaptation of Yowayowa Sensei represents her most high-profile project to date and signals her growing significance within the industry as an original creator whose work has been recognized for adaptation into other media.
