In the context of anime, Nakagawa is known for being the original creator of the comedy picture book series "Nandeyanen". The first book in this series was published in 2013 by Sekai Bunka-sha, with Nakagawa credited for the text, Tsubasa Suzuki for the original concept, and Hiroe Aoki for the illustrations. The book is full of silly and hilarious stories, such as waking up in the morning to find oneself with a topknot. Subsequent books in the series include "Ofuro de Nandeyanen" from 2017, "Yūenchi de Nandeyanen" from 2018, "Mahō de Nandeyanen" from 2019, and "Umi de Nandeyanen" from 2022, though Nakagawa was not credited for the text and illustrations of these four later volumes.

The "Nandeyanen" picture book series was adapted into a light anime, which began streaming exclusively on Netflix in Japan starting December 1, 2024. The term light anime was coined in 2022 to describe a production process that takes less time and costs less than traditional animation techniques.

Thematically, Nakagawa's work in picture books often explores everyday life with humor and simplicity. His works have been noted for addressing concepts such as living respectfully on earth, recognizing different human needs and desires, and the value of freedom, equality, and peace. He has been a consistent contributor to Japanese children's literature since his debut in the mid-1990s, with his most significant crossover into anime occurring through the adaptation of the "Nandeyanen" series.
